Gem Proof 1870 Standard Silver Quarter
Judd-889, Struck in Silver

1870 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-889, Pollock-988, Low R.7, PR65 PCGS. A bust of Liberty wearing a cap ornamented with three stars facing right, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds the figure, and a scroll with IN GOD WE TRUST is below. The reverse reads 25 CENTS 1870 in the center and is surrounded by a wreath of cotton and corn. Struck in silver with a plain edge. About a dozen examples are believed known of this Standard Silver variant, which was also struck in copper, nickel, and aluminum. A moderately mirrored pearl-gray Gem with a full strike and a pair of tiny strike-throughs (as made) near the profile.
