    Description

1870 Standard Silver Quarter in Copper
    Judd-891, PR64 Brown

1870 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-891, Pollock-990, High R.7, PR64 Brown PCGS. A bust of Liberty wears a cap ornamented with three stars and faces right. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds the figure, and a scroll with IN GOD WE TRUST is below. The reverse reads 25 CENTS 1870 in the center and is surrounded by an agricultural wreath. Struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com estimates that a half dozen examples are known of this variant, but that estimate may be on the high side. We haven't handled an example of the Judd-891 since 1995. This is a remarkably bright, glossy piece with pronounced blue-green toning over each side and a faint tinge of red surrounding the devices.
