Description

Toned Gem Quality 1870 Judd-900 Standard Silver Quarter

1870 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-900, Pollock-1015, R.5-6, PR65 NGC. Standard Silver design with the figure of Liberty wearing a headband inscribed LIBERTY, a scroll occupies the exergual space below the bust where the date would normally be placed. The reverse has 25 CENTS 1870 in the center and is surrounded by a wreath of cotton and corn with the word STANDARD above. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This fully original specimen displays rich antique-copper and dove-gray toning, over which blushes of crimson, orange, and olive highlights have gathered. The underlying proof finish is appreciable at direct angles. A tiny planchet flaw (as produced) is noted in the right obverse field, but post-production distractions are not outwardly evident.
