    1870 Seated Three Cent Silver, Judd-797, PR67

1870 3C Three Cent Silver, Judd-797, Pollock-884, Low R.7, PR67 PCGS. A lovely example, in miniature, of Barber's Liberty Seated design, combined with the standard reverse for the three-cent silver coinage. This is an interesting pattern, for the obverse used the same die that was intended for the half dime patterns of this design, while the reverse was a production die for three-cent coinage. The two coinage varieties had diameters that differed by about 1.4 millimeters, meaning that the reverse has an extremely wide border for the size of the coin. Watery, deeply mirrored surfaces are untoned save for a trace of golden color in the protected areas of the obverse.
