William Barber 1870 Seated Half Dollar
    Judd-937 in Aluminum, PR65 Cameo

1870 50C Half Dollar, Judd-937, Pollock-1044, High R.7, PR65 Cameo PCGS. CAC. William Barber's Seated Liberty design depicts Liberty seated on the obverse facing left, with a Liberty pole behind her. She holds an olive branch in her left hand, and supports a shield with her right hand. The word LIBERTY is also in raised letters. The reverse is from a regular issue Liberty Seated die. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. This beautiful design was also struck in silver and copper; all three compositions were made with a reeded edge and plain edge. Fewer than a half dozen of this aluminum striking are believed known. The surfaces are unoxidized and the fields are deeply reflective with strongly contrasting mint frost over the devices.
    Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2004), lot 8472. (NGC ID# 6LTP, PCGS# 61183)
