Description

Proof Specimen 1870 Standard Silver Half Dollar Pattern

1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-952, Pollock-1095, R.7, PR61 ANACS. The obverse shows a Bust of Liberty facing right, encircled by the peripheral legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll below. Miss Liberty is wearing a diadem inscribed LIBERTY, and her hair is tied in a bun. The reverse displays the denomination 50 CENTS and the date 1870 within a wreath of cotton and corn, with the inscription STANDARD above. The current offering has lovely, deeply reflective dark purple-gray fields and light-gray devices, with attractive underlying multicolored iridescence on the reverse. The striking details are slightly weak on some of the central devices. There are a few minor handling marks on the reverse, a wispy lintmark (as struck) in the left obverse field, and a few faint hairlines on each side. (#61198)
