1870 Judd-987 Half Dollar, PR67 Cameo
Standard Silver Design

1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-987, Pollock-1116, R.7, PR67 Cameo NGC. On the obverse Liberty faces right, wearing a headband with a star ornament and inscribed LIBERTY, her hair tied in a bun. IN GOD WE TRUST is on a scroll below, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. On the reverse a wreath of corn and cotton encloses 50 / CENTS, the latter in an upcurving arc, with STANDARD SILVER encircling the top half of the rim and the date 1870 below the wreath. Two ornamental stars are at 4:30 and 7:30. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. The surfaces are essentially pristine, with silver centers and deeper golden accents at the rims on both sides. This design was produced in silver, copper, and aluminum, each with a plain edge or a reeded edge. Saul Teichman reports at USPatterns.com that fewer than six examples of each variety are known.
