1870 Standard Silver Half in Silver
Judd-951, PR66 Cameo

1870 50C Standard Silver Half, Judd-951, Pollock-1094, R.5, PR66 Cameo NGC. The bust of Liberty faces right on the obverse with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll below. Liberty's hair is tied in a bun. On the reverse, the denomination 50 CENTS and date 1870 are in a wreath of cotton and corn with the inscription STANDARD above. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. The center of the reverse is not fully struck, as often encountered with this high relief obverse design. Brilliant throughout, the fields are deeply mirrored and the devices are expectantly frosted, which yields the cameo contrast as noted on the NGC insert. The surfaces are nearly flawless with only a squiggly lint mark in the right obverse field in front of Liberty's eye.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2004), lot 10628; Palm Beach Signature (Heritage, 3/2005), lot 6677.
