1870 William Barber Half Dime in Silver
    Judd-815, PR65+

1870 H10C Half Dime, Judd-815, Pollock-904, Low R.7, PR65+ PCGS. Ex: Eliasberg-Simpson. William Barber's Seated Liberty design offers her facing left, holding a shield in her right hand and with a free-standing Liberty pole behind. The reverse is the same design used to coin contemporary regular-issue half dimes. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This obverse / reverse pairing was struck in silver, copper, and aluminum and each metal had plain and reeded edge variants. About a dozen reeded edge silver pieces are believed known. Variegated golden-rose and blue toning is seen on the obverse, while the reverse is primarily deeper blue with occasional accents of reddish patina. Sharply detailed.
Ex: Eliasberg Collection (Bowers and Merena, 5/1996), lot 189.
