    Description

    1870 Half Dime, Judd-817, PR64 Brown
The William Barber Seated Liberty Design

1870 H10C Half Dime, Judd-817, Pollock-906, High R.6, PR64 Brown NGC. Ex: Bass/ANA Museum Display. The William Barber half dime pattern obverse, which, although somewhat ungainly (Liberty appears to have only one leg, and the Liberty pole springs up vertically with nothing holding it up), nonetheless has some artistic merit. The reverse is the standard half dime die. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. About a dozen are known of these pieces, which were sold in complete sets. This piece has a lot of eye appeal for the grade, sky-blue patina covering the reddish-brown surfaces. Census: 2 in 64 Brown, 2 finer (7/14).
Ex: Purchased from Brinton T. Schorer via Mike Brownlee (Goliad Corp.); Harry W. Bass, Jr. Research Foundation. Accompanied by an inventory tag showing provenance. HBCC-6083 (Bass Sylloge number).
Selections From The Harry Bass, Jr. Foundation's A.N.A. Museum Display. (NGC ID# 29UU, PCGS# 61061)
