    1871 Longacre Dollar in Aluminum
    Judd-Judd-1138e, PR64
    Two Examples Traced

1871 $1 Dollar, Judd-1138e, Pollock-1280, R.8, PR64 NGC. The Longacre Indian Princess design for the silver dollar with only 13 stars in the flag and 13 stars around the obverse margin. The reverse uses the standard proof With Motto Seated dollar design. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. This is an exceptionally rare pattern issue. Its rarity is based on a combination of the metal and the reeded edge. A high percentage of aluminum patterns show pronounced field-device contrast, and so it is with this piece; however, no such designation was given. The fields are deeply reflective and the devices are frosted bright-white. Crisply struck throughout, there are no obvious contact marks evident to the unaided eye.
