    1871 Copper Indian Princess Dollar
    Judd-1148, PR66 Brown

1871 $1 Dollar, Judd-1148, Pollock-1290, Low R.7, PR66 Brown PCGS. The Longacre obverse, with a seated Liberty facing left, wearing an Indian headdress and supporting a liberty pole with her right hand. Her left hand rests on a globe inscribed LIBERTY. Behind is a flag ornamented with 22 stars. Thirteen stars surround, the date 1871 is at the bottom. The design is executed in high relief with the appearance of a medal. The reverse was struck from the die used for regular issue Seated Liberty dollars. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Implemented by William Barber after James Longacre's death, this Indian Princess design is a favorite among pattern collectors and available in a number of metals, edges, and reverse types. The surfaces of this piece are deep moss-green, blue, and brown, but the mirrored fields flash strongly when angled just so beneath a light. Remarkably problem-free for a copper coin and among the finest certified. Population: 2 in 66 Brown, 0 finer (1/16).
