    1871 Seated Dollar in Copper
    Judd-1148, PR63 Red and Brown

1871 $1 One Dollar, Judd-1148, Pollock-1290, R.6-7, PR63 Red and Brown PCGS. James Longacre's design (as implemented by William Barber) features Liberty seated next to a globe with a feathered bonnet, flags behind, and a staff in her hand with a cap at the end. There are 13 stars around the periphery and 22 stars on the flag. The regular Seated Liberty reverse die is used. Struck in copper with a plain edge. While considered a "common" dollar design from this year, just over a dozen pieces are believed known in copper with a plain edge. The strike is intricately detailed on each side. Much red color is evident over the bright, lightly hairlined surfaces. Remnants of fingerprints are evident on the obverse.
