Description

Gem 1871 Half Dollar Die Trials, Judd-1117

1871 50C Half Dollar, Judd-1117, Pollock-1253, R.7, PR65 Brown NGC. Regular die trials striking. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. These are believed to have been deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete off-metal sets as opposed to being true die trials. Nevertheless, fewer than half a dozen are believed known, and this is undoubtedly the finest example known with brown surfaces. The so-called brown surfaces actually show a significant overlay of olive on each side. Fully struck throughout.
