    1871 Standard Silver Half Dollar in Copper
    Judd-1112, PR66 Red and Brown

    1871 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-1112, Pollock-1248, Low R.7, PR66 Red and Brown PCGS. Ex: Simpson. On the obverse, Liberty is seated facing left with the date 1871 below. She wears an Indian headdress and supporting a Liberty pole with her right hand. Her left hand rests on a globe inscribed LIBERTY. Thirteen stars decorate the periphery. The reverse features the denomination 50 CENTS within a wreath of cotton and corn, with the inscription STANDARD above. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Longacre's design is implemented here by William Barber after the former's death in 1869. This copper representative is one of "just over a half dozen confirmed," according to Flashy copper and reddish-brown surfaces exhibit splashes of violet and blue toning. A semireflective and razor-sharp Premium Gem.
