Copper Striking of 1871 Gold Dollar
    Judd-1161, PR64 Brown

1871 G$1 Gold Dollar, Judd-1161, Pollock-1303, R.8, PR64 Brown NGC. Ex: Simpson. This extremely rare pattern is struck in copper from regular dies for the 1871 gold dollar. The Judd pattern reference lists it as R.8, calling it a dies trial. notes there are less than four specimens known, saying that the pieces were likely deliberately struck for sale to collectors rather than being a die trial. This piece has flashy rose-red and apricot-gold surfaces with a hint of sea-green at the margins. A small strike-through, as made, appears just below the Indian princess's chin. Extremely rare.
Ex: Orlando FUN (Heritage, 1/2010), lot 2371.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
