    1871 Judd-1161 Gold Dollar
    PR65 Red and Brown

    1871 G$1 Gold Dollar, Judd-1161, Pollock-1303, R.8, PR65 Red and Brown NGC. Ex: Eric P. Newman Collection. From regular issue reeded edge dies, but struck in copper. Predominantly brick-red with lilac tints on the fields and high points. A small spot on the right pendant of the first T in STATES provides an identifier. We are aware of at least two other examples of Judd-1161: a PR64 Brown NGC in our August 2012 Signature, and a PR65 Brown NGC that brought $17,825 in a June 2010 Stack's auction.
