1871 Standard Silver Half Dime in Copper, Judd-1066

1871 H10C Standard Silver Half Dime, Judd-1066, Pollock-1201, R.7, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. Longacre's Indian princess design is featured on the obverse, here featured with stars around the periphery, and paired with a reverse featuring the denomination inside of a wreath of cotton and corn and the inscription STANDARD above, i.e., the "Standard Reverse" design of 1870. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This pattern was apparently implemented by William Barber as Longacre died in 1869. These were sold as part of complete sets from the half dime to the silver dollar, and it is the most common of the four Longacre designs of this year with slightly over a dozen known. This piece has mottled red and brown surfaces with a dark arc of brown on the reverse just below CENTS. Light spotting accounts for the non-Gem grade.(#71325) (NGC ID# 2A33, PCGS# 71325)
