1872 Three Dollar Dies Trial in Copper
Judd-1238, PR63 Brown

1872 $3 Three Dollar, Judd-1238, Pollock-1380, High R.7, PR63 Brown NGC. A dies trial from the regular-issue 1872 three dollar dies. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com suggests that fewer than half a dozen examples are known. Only two examples are currently certified (both at NGC). The Bass example was formerly graded by PCGS, but that coin no longer appears in the Population Report. This Select three dollar pattern showcases smooth chocolate-brown surfaces and full definition on the hair curls, headdress, and wreath elements.
