    Description

    1873 Ten Dollar in Copper
    Judd-1342, PR65 Brown

1873 $10 Ten Dollars, Judd-1342, Pollock-1486, R.8, PR65 Brown PCGS. Ex: Simpson. The obverse and reverse are both the same design used to strike regular-issue 1873 Closed 3 eagles. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This is an exceptionally rare pattern, one of just three or four believed to exist, including pieces that are gilt. A similar number are known in aluminum. The Brown designation for this Gem is somewhat misleading. Both sides feature deep violet patina with colorful accents of pale orange, lilac, blue, and lime-green toning that all blend together. A couple of tiny carbon spots are seen.
Ex: Jones Beach Collection / FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2007), lot 1507.
