    Description

1873 Half Dime in Aluminum, PR65
    Extremely Rare Judd-1267 Pattern

1873 H10C Half Dime, Judd-1267, Pollock-1409, High R.7, PR65 PCGS. Gold CAC. The regular dies of the year, struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. Deliberately struck for collectors as a delicacy and also a "last chance" of sorts for the Mint, as the Act of 1873 caused a radical shakeup of the denominations struck by the facility. With only three or four examples known, this is a tough aluminum pattern. The present example has been in the PCGS Population Report for some time, judging by the first-generation holder. Its surfaces are pleasingly preserved with just a hint of golden color against the usual aluminum-white. Both sides are appreciably contrasted and better-looking than a "mere" PR65, as the gold CAC label suggests.
