    Description

    1873 Trade Dollar Pattern, PR63
    Judd-1315, Silver, Reeded Edge

1873 T$1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1315, Pollock-1458, R.4, PR63 PCGS. The obverse shows Liberty seated on a globe, with 13 stars around and the date below. The reverse has a defiant eagle perched on a rock, with a scroll and motto below; TRADE DOLLAR and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are around the periphery, along with two stars. E PLURIBUS UNUM is set into the field above the eagle's head; 420 GRAINS and 900 FINE. are below the scroll and above TRADE DOLLAR. Modified from a design of Joseph Alexis Bailly by William Barber, and struck in silver with a reeded edge. This well struck and satiny specimen is deeply patinated gunmetal-gray but exhibits forest-green, rose-red, and peach-gold undertones. The centers lack a complete impression, which suggests that the tiny ticks on the obverse motif were on the flan before the strike. Certified in a green label holder.
