    1873 Trade Dollar in Copper
    Judd-1317, PR64 Red and Brown

1873 T$1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1317, Pollock-1460, R.7, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. A Seated Liberty design for the Trade dollar by Bailly, with Liberty's left hand resting on a globe and her right hand clutching a pole with a Phrygian cap atop. Surrounding her are bales of cotton and a tobacco plant. The reverse has a small eagle in the center with most of the statutory requirements placed on that side. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Struck in silver, copper, aluminum, and white metal, the copper strikings are the most frequently encountered. Significant green patina is intermixed with red and brown, giving the coin an attractive "autumn leaves" appearance. The only mentionable defect is either a stain or area of carbon on the obverse rim at 11 o'clock.
