    Description

    1873 Trade Dollar Pattern
    Judd-1322, PR63

1873 T$1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1322, Pollock-1465, R.4, PR63 NGC. The obverse is similar to the adopted design, but with a longer base on the rock that extends to the right (facing) rim behind Liberty. The reverse shows a small eagle high in the field, with spread wings and holding a ribbon that is nearly a closed loop in its beak. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This is among the commoner Trade dollar patterns, although there are a number of R.4 issues for 1873. The Trade dollar subseries within the patterns has a dedicated following. Pinkish-gold accents are a bit heavier on the reverse of this Select coin, which is well-struck and whose grade is limited more by field hairlines than obvious contact. The Lemus-Queller specimen was a PR64 Cameo. Census: 6 in 63, 13 finer (10/11).
