Description

    1874 Nickel Twenty Cent Piece
    Judd-1358, PR66
    Ex: Bass, Pollock Plate Coin

1874 20C Twenty Cents, Judd-1358, Pollock-1503, High R.7, PR66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Denali Collection. The obverse depicts a seated figure of Liberty facing left and holding a liberty pole in her right hand. Her left hand rests on a globe and she is surrounded by agricultural produce. The reverse exhibits the denomination 20 CENTS within a wreath with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. The nickel strikings of this design are even scarcer than the ones in aluminum. Only three are confirmed to exist, with the possibility of a possible fourth coin. The fields on this example are bright and the strike is strong throughout with significant mint frost over the devices. Mostly untoned.
Ex: Numismatics, Ltd., (8/12/1974); plate coin in Pollock; Bass I (Bowers and Merena, 5/1999), lot 1114. (NGC ID# 2AA3, PCGS# 61662)
