    Description

    1875 Aluminum Trade Dollar
    Judd-1422, PR62
    Only Two Known

1875 $1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1422, Pollock-1565, R.8 -- Lamination -- PR62 ANACS. A Trade dollar pattern with Liberty at the seashore, similar to the Judd-1396 twenty cent pattern, with a sidewheeler in the distance. The reverse is of the regular No Motto silver dollar design. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. Only two pieces are known of this pattern in aluminum, both of which have distinguished pedigrees. Saul did some work on these pieces and traced this piece with its distinctive obverse lamination to Doughty Sale (1891). The surfaces are bright and the fields are highly reflective. However, as often seen on aluminum patterns, there are numerous cracks in the planchet, and on this piece a long, shallow lamination is seen in the upper-reverse field. Of the highest rarity and importance to the pattern collector.
Ex: Doughty Collection (New York Coin and Stamp Co., 4/1891); Woodside Sale (New York Coin and Stamp Co., 4/1892); to Virgil Brand, 1895 (journal entry # 13887).

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
