    1875 Aluminum Quarter Eagle
    Judd-1435, Heavily Contrasted PR65

1875 $2 1/2 Quarter Eagle, Judd-1435, Pollock-1578, High R.7, PR65 PCGS. CAC. Regular dies trial for the Liberty quarter eagle. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. According to while these pieces have been termed as dies trial strikings in the past, in reality they were deliberately struck for sale to collectors. Nevertheless, aluminum strikings are of the greatest rarity with only two or three pieces believed known. The copper strikes are also rare with an estimated four or five pieces known, several of which have been gilt to simulate the rare 1875 quarter eagle. This is a deeply mirrored example, and as with many aluminum patterns, the devices are heavily frosted and present stark cameo contrast. The surfaces are unoxidized and problem-free.
