Description

1876 Liberty Eagle in Copper
Judd-1486, PR63 Red and Brown
One of Just Three Known

1876 $10 Ten Dollar, Judd-1486, Pollock-1639, High R.7, PR63 Red and Brown PCGS. Ex: The Peh Family Collection. Struck from JD-1 proof 1876 Liberty eagle dies, but in copper with a reeded edge. Judd-1486 was struck as part of a denominational off-metal Centennial-year proof set. Saul Teichman depicts only three specimens of this rare pattern. The deep brick-red surfaces reveal mauve, jade-green, and navy-blue colors when rotated under a light. Well struck and attractive. One small spot noted near the first A in AMERICA. Population: 1 in 63 Red and Brown, 2 finer (8/25).
Ex: Dr. William A. Bartlett (Bowers and Ruddy, 11/1979), lot 2995; Morgan, Leckar, Columbia (Bowers and Merena, 11/1998), lot 630; Classics Sale (American Numismatic Rarities, 7/2003), lot 1068; New York Signature (Heritage, 11/2003), lot 11209; FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 3708.
