1876 Ten Dollar in Copper
Judd-1486, PR65+ Red and Brown

1876 $10 Ten Dollar, Judd-1486, Pollock-1639, R.7, PR65+ Red and Brown PCGS. Ex: Simpson. Struck with regular issue ten dollar dies, but in copper with a reeded edge. Such pieces are often referred to as die trials strikings, but Judd-1486 was more likely struck for sale to select dealers or collectors, as part of a denominational off-metal set. USPatterns.com states "Only 3 or 4 are believed to exist including at least one which has been gilt." This is the finest certified example of this rare, off-metal strike. The surfaces retain much cherry-red mint luster with generous portions of blue intermixed on each side. The fields are brightly reflective, and strong field-device contrast is noted.
