1877 Morgan Half Dollar in Copper
    Judd-1509, PR65 Brown

1877 50C Morgan Half Dollar, Judd-1509, Pollock-1663, Low R.7, PR65 Brown NGC. The design close to the adopted Morgan dollar of 1878, but in half dollar size with minor device differences. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. As a class, the half dollar patterns of 1877 are among the most desirable of all pattern series. Considering all of the different varieties, there are over 40 different half dollar patterns for the year, and all are rare. This Gem Proof of the Judd-1509, one of the closest to the final Morgan dollar design, has lovely olive brown surfaces with reflective fields. A few slight spots on each side may help identify future auction appearances.
Ex: Long Beach (Heritage, 2/2005), lot 9865.
