    1879 Goloid Metric Dollar
    Judd-1626, PR50

1879 $1 Goloid Metric Dollar, Judd-1626, Pollock-1822, R.4, PR50 PCGS. The William Barber Goloid Metric dollar designs combines a capped Liberty Head with a reverse carrying the statutory as well as elemental inscriptions. A circle of stars around the central text breaks the otherwise continuous wording. Allegedly struck in goloid (a silver alloy that includes a small portion of gold) with a reeded edge. We are unaware of any of these that have undergone metallurgical testing, so this may likely be a silver striking. The surfaces are bright with just a slight trace of golden toning -- or is from a small amount of gold alloy?
