Description

Elusive 1879 Metric Dollar in Aluminum, Judd-1633

1879 $1 Goloid Metric Dollar, Judd-1633, Pollock-1830, High R.7, Proof Details, Obverse Planchet Flaw, NCS. George Morgan's design for a goloid metric dollar with the bust of Liberty facing left on the obverse, hair braided and coiled at the back of her head, E PLURIBUS UNUM above and the date below with stars on the left and right side. On the reverse, the elemental components are central to that side and surrounded by a small circle of stars, and two other circles of statutory requirements between the stars and the rim. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. Offered here is spot-free example of this elusive pattern. The surfaces would seemingly merit a Choice or better rating save for a diagonal planchet streak that runs the length of the obverse.(#62011)
