    Description

1879 Metric Dollar in Goloid or Silver
    Judd-1617, Lightly Toned PR63

1879 $1 Metric Dollar, Judd-1617, Pollock-1813, R.4, PR63 NGC. William Barber's Metric dollar with Liberty wearing a coronet with a border of pearls, similar in design to the half union patterns from 1877. The reverse is elaborately laid out with a partial wreath of cotton and corn tied at the base, a ribbon, and with DEO EST GLORIA on a tablet above. Struck in goloid or silver with a reeded edge. Without metallurgical testing it is impossible to visually tell if a piece was struck from silver or goloid composition. Several hundred pieces are known. Much rarer are the copper and aluminum examples. This example displays pale golden-rose and lilac toning over each side with strong mirroring in the fields.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
