Toned Gem Proof 1879 Metric Dollar
    Judd-1618, None Graded Finer

1879 $1 Metric Dollar, Judd-1618, Pollock-1813, R.5, PR65 PCGS. William Barber's Metric dollar with Liberty wearing a coronet with a border of pearls. The reverse shows a partial wreath of cotton and corn tied at the base, a ribbon, and inscriptions that include DEO EST GLORIA and the elemental composition of goloid. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Boldly struck and satiny with deep golden-brown, olive-green, and aqua patina. Although Judd-1618 is not rare by pattern standards, a surprising percentage of survivors are in circulated grades, and none are certified finer at either major service.
