    Description

    Condition Census 1879 Morgan Dollar
    Struck in Copper, Judd-1614
    PR66 Red and Brown Cameo

    1879 $1 Morgan Dollar, Judd-1614, Pollock-1810, Low R.7, PR66 Red and Brown Cameo NGC.
    Design.
The obverse is the regular-issue Morgan dollar die, but the reverse is yet another modified version like the Judd-1611 and Judd-1612, with the eagle similar but lower in the field. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is in large letters (compared to the remainder of the lettering), with ONE DOLLAR at the bottom smaller, and IN GOD WE TRUST in similarly small letters in an inner arc above the eagle. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.

    Commentary.
The eagle has been moved down lower in the field and ONE DOLLAR is in smaller letters, making room for a second, inner arcing IN GOD WE TRUST below UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Perhaps someone noticed that the Judd-1611 and -1612 pieces lacked any reference to trust in God?

    Physical Description.
The splendid surfaces of this wonderful Premium Gem coin display rich copper-orange coloration accented by tinges of blue. Dark flecks are minimal, and the eye appeal is generous. A total of 12 pieces are certified at NGC and PCGS combined. Although we have handled several examples of this copper pattern in the past, this is the first time we have ever offered one that exceeded the PR65 grade. In PR66 Red and Brown Cameo this is the single finest certified at NGC, although PCGS has graded a single PR67 Red and Brown example finer (9/08).

    Provenance.
Ex: Greater New York Numismatic Convention Sale (Stack's, 4/1988), lot 1419.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two. (NGC ID# 2AH5, PCGS# 71992)
