    1879 Morgan Half Dollar in Silver

    1879 50C Morgan Half Dollar, Judd-1601, Pollock-1796, High R.6, PR65 PCGS. CAC. Morgan's bust for the 1878 silver dollar appears on the obverse, reduced here in scale for the half dollar denomination. E PLURIBUS UNUM and the stars have a layout similar to the Morgan dollar obverse. The reverse features a perched eagle sans wreath. The eagle clutches an olive branch with seven leaves, and three arrows with large arrowheads. IN GOD WE TRUST is widely spread and in tiny letters. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. More than a dozen examples are known in both silver and copper, according to USPatterns.com. This is a magnificent piece with heavily frosted devices set against the deeply reflective fields. The center of each side is untoned while the margins show golden-russet and deep blue rings of color.
