    Description

    Rarity-8 1896 Cent Pattern

1896 Cent, Judd-1768, Pollock-1985A, R.8, PR 64 Brown NGC. The design is similar to the other 1896 patterns with the shield on the obverse, crossed poles behind; 1 CENT in the center of the reverse, surrounded by an olive wreath. However, this variant differs slightly in the positioning of central devices in relation to the peripheral legends. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Even, chocolate-brown patina and free from carbon spotting. A rare, late date pattern of which only two are presently accounted for, this being the only one outside an institution (the discovery coin is in the Harry Bass Research Foundation). (NGC ID# 2AM7, PCGS# 62222)
