Superb Red and Brown 1879 Pattern Dollar, Judd-1628

1879 $1 Goloid Metric Dollar, Judd-1628, Pollock-1824, R.7, PR67 Red and Brown PCGS. William Barber's rather bland design for the Goloid Metric dollar features the head of Liberty with a wide band inscribed LIBERTY and a cap with all manner of American produce. The reverse is simply laid out with the composition in the center, surrounded by stars and two more rings of inscriptions. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This is the first Red and Brown example of this pattern we have offered since our 1994 ANA Sale. The surfaces are deep cherry-red with blue highlights on each side. Nicely mirrored, we see no signs of carbon or post-striking defects. Accompanied by PCGS insert 3682272 that also grades this coin PR67 Red and Brown.
From the Genaitis Collection of 1879 Coinage.
