Description

1882 Liberty Nickel, PR65 Cameo
Judd-1684, Plain Edge, Struck in Nickel

1882 5C Liberty Nickel, Judd-1684, Pollock-1886, Low R.6, PR65 Cameo NGC. The obverse is similar to that adopted for the regular issue Liberty nickel in 1883, but the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA has replaced the stars around the periphery. The reverse depicts a large Roman numeral V within a wreath of corn and cotton with E PLURIBUS UNUM at the top. The bust and wreath are larger relative to the similar Judd-1680, but Judd-1684 has a reduced diameter of 21mm vs 22mm, per USPatterns.com. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Uniform nickel-gray patina covers the underlying proof finish, which begins to shine through with hints of peach, rose and lilac when viewed during rotation.
