1882 Liberty Nickel in Aluminum
Judd-1686, PR64

1882 5C Liberty Nickel, Judd-1686, Pollock-1888, High R.7, PR64 PCGS. CAC. The design is similar to that adopted for the regular issue Liberty nickel in 1883, but the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA has replaced the stars around the periphery, and the wreath and V are larger with E PLURIBUS UNUM placed at the top. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge. The nickel strikes in this three piece issue are what are usually seen, with copper and aluminum rarely encountered. Only a half-dozen of each are estimated known. This is a bright example with deeply reflective fields and the normally seen frosted, contrasting devices. A few minor planchet voids and a shallow lamination on the obverse probably figured into the grade of this exceptional piece. Housed in a Generation 1.2 "rattler" holder.
