    Description

Brilliant and Deeply Mirrored 1882 Five-Cent Pattern, Judd-1687

1882 Five-Cents, Judd-1687, Pollock-1889, R.6-7, PR65 PCGS. The obverse uses Barber's head of Liberty from the adopted design of 1883, the date below, and the motto above with stars on either side. The reverse is from the regular issue dies of 1883. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Bright and untoned, the fields are highly reflective, and on each side the surfaces show tiny planchet flakes. A curious item of note is that there is a diagonal streak of what appears to be die rust on the cheek of Liberty. No mention is made in Pollock of restrikes, but this definitely brings up the possibility.
