    Description

    1883 Judd-1714, Pollock-1919 Nickel Pattern, PR65 Cameo
    Liberty Head, No CENTS Reverse

1883 5C Liberty Head Five Cents, Judd-1714, Pollock-1919, Low R.6, PR65 Cameo PCGS. CAC. The design is similar to the regular-issue 1883 No CENTS Liberty nickel, but LIBERTY is absent on the coronet, instead spread across the upper obverse rim. The stars are smaller and arranged 6 x 7. The No CENTS reverse is from the same die used to strike Judd-1690, identified by the widely repunched S in PLURIBUS. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Although a couple dozen examples of this pattern variety survive, few can match this piece for aesthetic appeal. Both sides are untoned light gray with excellent field-to-device contrast. Population: 6 in 65, 1 finer (12/12). (NGC ID# 2AL4, PCGS# 62131)
