    Description

1883 Liberty Nickel, With Cents, PR63
    Judd-1720, Aluminum
    Judd 10th Edition Plate Coin

1883 5C Liberty Nickel, With Cents, Judd-1720, Pollock-1927, High R.7, PR63 PCGS. The very rare Judd-1720 is sometimes cataloged as a dies trial piece, since it was struck in aluminum (with a plain edge) and appears upon cursory inspection to match the regular issue 1883 With Cents designs. Indeed, the obverse layout is identical, but the reverse differs in the length of the tassels above the large V. This sharply struck silver-gray specimen is beautifully preserved, though the market grade is affected by two slender parallel retained laminations from star 4 to Liberty's neck across the chin. Housed in a first generation holder.
    Ex: Auction '89 (Stack's, 7/1989), lot 1855.
