    Description

    1883 Aluminum Liberty Nickel
    Judd-1720, PR64

1883 5C Liberty Nickel, With Cents, Judd-1720, Pollock-1927, High R.7, PR64 PCGS. Similar to the issued 1883 With Cents Liberty nickel, but the lower tassels of the upper corn ears differ in length. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge. This is a most unusual opportunity. Our records indicate we have only handled one other Judd-1720 before this auction, that was from Newman I. Now we have three from the same consignor, each in first-generation PCGS holders. This piece has deeply reflective mirrors in the fields and a good portion of mint frost over the devices. A few imperfections are noted in the fields from the time of striking.
Ex: Dr. Alfred R. Globus Pattern Collection (Stack's, 5/1998), lot 526.
