Description
1885 Morgan Dollar in Silver
Judd-1747, PR62
Snowden Lettered Edge
1885 $1 Snowden Dollar, Judd-1747, Pollock-1959, Low R.6, PR62
ANACS. Silver weight 26.64 grams. The obverse and reverse are
identical to that of the regular issue 1885 Morgan dollar. The edge
is, however, lettered ***** E * / PLURIBUS * / UNUM *****. Struck
in silver. Lightly toned centers are framed by deep cobalt-blue and
lavender margins. A popular pattern with added demand from Morgan
dollar specialists. Judd-1747 was promoted by Philadelphia Mint
Superintendent Archibald Loudon Snowden late in his term, and the
notion of a lettered edge was dropped by his successor.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2ALT, PCGS# 62189, Greysheet# 15138)
