    1896 Federal Shield Nickel, Judd-1770, PR64
    Charles Barber Design

    1896 5C Five Cents, Judd-1770, Pollock-1987, Low R.6, PR64 PCGS. This Charles Barber design uses a Federal shield as its primary motif. Behind the shield are two crossed poles bearing a liberty cap and eagle. A scroll passing in front of the shield is inscribed LIBERTY. The denomination 5 CENTS is centered within a curved olive sprig on the reverse. Struck in a nickel alloy with a plain edge. This near-Gem exhibits deep champagne toning over lightly mirrored fields with delicate luster on the sharply defined devices.
