    Shield Obverse, Judd-1771, PR66

    1896 5C Five Cents, Judd-1771, Pollock-1986, Low R.6, PR66 PCGS. Charles Barber's design features a shield at the center obverse with LIBERTY incused. Crossed poles behind support a Liberty cap and a tiny eagle. E PLURIBUS UNUM is at the top rim, with stars seven left, six right. On the reverse a large 5 occupies the center with a small CENTS below, an open olive sprig surrounding and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the rim. Struck in pure nickel with a plain edge. This is a lovely gray Premium Gem with considerable cameo contrast and no visible impairments. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (3/13). (NGC ID# 2AMC, PCGS# 62225)
