    1943 Copper-Plated Steel Cent
    RB 43-78, Ungraded

1943 1C Copper-Plated Steel Cent Planchet, RB 43-78, Ungraded NGC. 2.8 grams. Magnetic. The NGC insert states this experimental planchet was produced in January 1943, but we are uncertain how they determined that date. None of the variations of this type of bonded planchet that are listed in Roger W. Burdette's reference on World War II patterns lists a January date of production. The RB 43-78 notes by Burdette include, "many surface imperfections due to poor bond between copper and steel." We do not see such imperfections on this piece, but it is otherwise consistent. This is a Type One planchet, meaning it was not passed through the upsetting machine. The reddish-brown surfaces show numerous signs of handling. The steel center is seen by tilting the holder as the piece is encapsulated in a holder that enables one to view the edge.

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
