Interesting 1964 Inco Quarter-Sized Private Pattern

1964 International Nickel Company Quarter Dollar Token, Unlisted in Judd, Pollock-5340, MS64 ANACS. The obverse bears the legend PAUL D. MERICA LABORATORY, which frames a right-facing portrait of the founder. The reverse inscriptions are INTERNATIONAL NICKEL COMPANY INC. DEDICATED 1964. An aerial view of the Inco buildings fills the reverse center. Struck with a plain edge on a planchet of 95% nickel and 5% silicon on a permalloy core. A conservatively graded pearl-gray example that has a somewhat matte-like finish. The pending removal of silver from U.S. coins led Inco to seek a Federal contact, and these private patterns were the result.
