Description
1879 Morgan Half Dollar, PR65 Red
Judd-1602, Copper
1879 50C Morgan Half Dollar, Judd-1602, Pollock-1797, R.7, PR65
Red PCGS. The obverse is a smaller scale version of the regular
issue 1879 Morgan dollar obverse. For the reverse, an eagle with
lowered wings clutches an olive branch and a cluster of arrows. IN
GOD WE TRUST is widely distributed across the reverse border, along
with other statutory legends. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.
The strike is good, if slightly soft in the centers. A few freckles
of russet toning near the chin, otherwise the brick-red color is
consistent throughout aside from a hint of olive color on the
reverse. Magnificently preserved. A desirable Judd variety, since
Morgan Dollar patterns are an important specialty, and other
advanced collectors acquire 1879 pattern types (Stella, Schoolgirl,
Washlady).Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2006), lot 2497; Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2006), lot 2891.
